YEOMANS TAKES ON TOURING CAR
October 6 2003
Scottish born racing driver Jason Yeomans is on the comeback trail and aiming squarely for the British Porsche Carrera Cup.

Yeomans, who last raced in 1999 for Barwell Motorsport in the Vauxhall Vectra V6 Championship, has spent the last 3 years, as he puts it “In the rat-race!” when pushed he says “I got quite disillusioned with the ‘sport’ side of motorsport. I mean, I know how it all works, but I’d just had enough. Forget talent it’s money that talks here!” he continues “So I thought bo*****s to this and decided to take a step back and take a look at where I was going, you know, get a different perspective on it all”

“Anyway, the rat-race is oh so very boring, and I have un-finished business here.. I love racing, it’s me through and through”

Ask Jason about his ‘rat-race’ experience and he laughs “I’m kind of still in it I suppose, as I still work in London, in Telecoms now. I had some really funny experiences though, good really. I’ve been a headhunter, a sales director, an account director and so on, and always in London.. it opens your eyes a bit, but in fairness racing wises you up at a pretty early age. I’ll tell you what though, let me back in a race car anyday, I much prefer that to the London Underground!!”

One thing he is very sure about is where he is going “I’m going to do GT’s, either in Europe or the US, no doubt; it’s where it’s all happening. The Porsche Carrera Cup is the perfect stepping stone to that and it’s a wicked championship; exactly up my street, lots of power, rear-wheel drive… I get really excited thinking about it. Ok, it could do with a few more cars, but that’ll come, the main thing is that it has spirit, and it has bags of that! I know I can win as well, it’s my thing, rear-wheel drive I mean, I love it, just like the TVR Tuscan or GT1 Benetton Lotus I drove… Bring it on!!”

Yeomans is currently flat-out pulling together a deal for next year but also hopes to get out this year “It would be good to do a race or 2 this year” he says “be nice to be on the podium again” he grins.

He won’t be pressed on team choice though “ it’s early days for that he says”

One things for sure, Yeomans knows what to do and how to do it, the Porsche Carrera Cup could almost be designed for him. It’ll certainly be fireworks when he at last gets back in a car… and a rear-wheel drive one at that!!
